Journalist Rekha Basu earns the Defending Democracy award from the Iowa League of Women Voters

DES MOINES, Iowa —

The Iowa League of Women Voters Thursday night presented journalist Rekha Basu with the Defending Democracy award.

Her inspiring 16-minute speech spanned a range of urgent issues. The full video of Basu’s remarks at the Jasper Winery in Des Moines is above. Iowa Mercury live-streamed the speech.

Basu’s award-winning columns have appeared not only in The Des Moines Register but in newspapers across the nation.
