Iowa alt-folk artist Chip Albright says he wrote a song about Senate candidate Josh Turek in six verses for a reason.
“He won his first election by 6 votes,” Albright said of Turek, a Council Bluffs Democrat seeking the U.S. Senate seat in Iowa being vacated by GOP Sen. Joni Ernst. Turek won his Statehouse race in 2022 in western Iowa by six votes.
Albright, a Des Moines musician with rural roots, performed his original song “If It’s Turek, That’s Terrific” during the Iowa Writers’ Collaborative hootenanny Friday night at Byron’s in Pomeroy.
“I think there are a lot of good character people out there,” Albright said. “I want to get behind them as they start running for office to get things back better again.”
Albright explained to the audience why he supports Turek and went through the origin of the idea for the song, which is now available on Spotify and other platforms.
Last week, Albright met Turek at an event for the candidate in Des Moines.
“I think it’s Ok to have heroes,” Albright tells The Iowa Mercury. “Let’s get behind this guy.”
