I like the article BUT the author is a FORMER resident. We need people like her back “home”. I came back after 20 yrs in Western Colorado to try and make a difference,( Lord knows we need it given the current political climate). As the fourth of seven generations currently living here I feel frustrated that we have let idiots take over our state😡

I see this all the time too, people telling us how the state needs to change, but they don't stay and fight, like us. Instead they move away and protect themselves from the changes, once they see those things coming. I guess I'm just too old, stubborn, and Irish, to let the assholes drive me away, so I stay here to fight, live and die here, since this is where all my friends are, and always have been. As long as the progressive and more educated people keep moving away, the state will keep getting redder, as the remaining Iowans will be mostly lower educated, strongly religious, and more conservative folks.

I loved reading this column. Thank you. It brought back great memories of my high school teachers who challenged all of us to “use our heads”. Perfect advice.

Beautifully written about my Uncle Jim. He like my Dad, his older brother were very tough teachers. Neither one of them tolerated crap in their classroom. You captured him perfectly! Thank you from our family!
