Wise words Monica. Letting fear and isolation permeate will not help. Continue to observe, learn and request accountability from the 49.7 percent (Cook Report election results) who voted for chaos. Keith Haring had a saying Refuse/Resist which is my mindset as I look beyond the dread of a Trump administration.

Monica, I believe there were lots of things that went wrong in the election. A Black woman for starters. The lack of lead time to get people to trust her. But I believe it comes down to education and critical thinking skills and a Republican party that will lie, steal and cheat to win elections. Not to mention the Republican candidate. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. Here are the categories of people who voted for Trump:

People who want to pay fewer taxes

Racists and xenophobes and misogynists

Evangelicals and other extreme culture war advocates

Immigration antagonists

I find it hard to believe that inflation was a problem. The US just reported that Black Friday/cyber weekend was the biggest shopping weekend ever, but maybe it’s just the “haves” who are doing all the buying.

I agree with you on all of your points. Another major factor is Fox News. Democrats continue to underestimate the power of the most watched cable "news" network. We (the powers that be) should have done something about the network years ago. When you step outside of the political bubble and start to recognize the power of the network, you can understand why the people who decided the election voted the way they did. They didn't receive the same information that we did. Fox News and now Twitter are MAJOR problems when it comes to the dissemination of false narratives and propaganda.

Right on! She's SO right. You warned our OLLI group that Dems might be on the wrong track. You spoke softly. Why? Because they would have shouted you down. Their Silo was wrong. Time to open the door and smell the air.

Living in silos is not the answer. For some reason, the Right does not seem to be harmed by its echo chambers. I understand the comfort of reading and sharing with those we agree with. However, the left-of-center echo chamber reinforces shared beliefs without engaging dissenting views, limiting outreach and self-criticism. If this means listening to Joe Rogan, I am.
