The oligarchy's chase for immortality through transhumanism is frighteningly real, and will explode the wealth divide, likely creating species within humanity itself.
Re the Musk quote: Keep in mind that Leon (what his underling calls him) is not a scientist. Repeat: he's not a scientist. He's a sociopathic madman who can very well live with the monsters he hybridizes in his insane quest for immortality.
Although cultural drivers and medical science have helped lengthen the average lifespan, the maximum human lifespan has been relatively unchanged for centuries. And the longest living individuals of our species almost never reach their longevity because of technology. Im not surprised these tech bros think ability to write code can translate to some mastery of biological systems but the fact that they do only shows how obtuse they really are.
An accident to death would be far better than death in one of the corporate, equity owned Iowa care centers. Clark Kauffman's care center reports provide the reality of aging in Iowa. Doug, thanks for another intetesting road of information on a day I am not on the road.
Personally, I have grown weary of how inequality, greed, and corruption, in both our politics and our corporations, have only grown worse during my adult life. If these trends continue, as I believe they will, I certainly don't want to live any extra decades in such a dystopia, at least as I would see it. I am finding it hard enough to face the remaining twenty or twenty five years I may have left, if the current political crisis keeps playing out the way I think it will, as well as its aftermath. Only a selfish narcissist could enjoy living to be well over 100 or so, in the world we see coming, but then again, those are exactly the people who would get that sort of extended life and are seeking it these days.. To me they are already inhuman, just rich powerful monsters...
Our bodies & brains aren't physically designed for how fast technology is driving every aspect of society.
On a lighter note, I read a quote to the effect of "people want to live forever, but they don't know what to do with themselves on a rainy afternoon."

One more note - Leon will probably not reach immortality since Tesla is the #1 make in fatalities per 100,000 miles. https://insideevs.com/news/741185/tesla-fatal-accident-rates-new-study-report/
